Forest project manager

WWF is the world’s largest conservation organization, founded in 1961. We’re active in over 100 countries and have over 8000 employees. WWF Central and Eastern Europe is responsible for leading and to a significant extent implementing WWF’s efforts to preserve, restore and sustainably manage the natural values of the Danube-Carpathian ecoregion, which we also call the Green Heart of Europe. With a team of nearly 200 highly specialised professionals, we are working across political borders through an ecoregional approach based on model projects, influencing policy, networking, capacity building, communication and crisis response.

WWF Hungary is seeking to recruit a forest project manager to join the Conservation team.

The jobholder will:

As a member of the Forest Team, works in a strong cooperation with / under the coordination of the Forest Programme Lead.
Ensure successful implementation of forest-related project activities, including reporting and monitoring.
Coordinate assigned projects and organize implementation of project actions.
Prepare and develop new project ideas and proposals, actively seeking financing opportunities.
Collaborate with project partners and local project managers.
Contribute to advocacy for the revision of relevant strategies and forest management plans.
Support replication and transfer of project results across the region.
Develop case studies, key concepts and position papers.
Organize project events such as team meetings, stakeholder workshops, trainings, seminars and field trips.
Maintain relationships with organisations, institutions, communities and other stakeholders involved in the protection and sustainable use of forests.
Represents WWF Hungary in external events and the media.
Prepares communication content for various channels and actions with the aim of raising awareness and education

The ideal candidate would have:

University degree in ecology, forestry, nature conservation or other environmental sciences.
At least 5 years of professional experience.
Proven experience in project management.
Expertise in ecology and nature conservation and/or forestry, with an understanding of forest-related environmental, economic and social challenges.
Strong skills in planning, coordination and administrative accuracy.
Experience in engaging and cooperating with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to work both independently and as part of an international team.
Proactive attitude, willingness to learn and develop new skills, strong team spirit.
Excellent command of written and spoken Hungarian and English
Ability to collaborate seamlessly within a matrix organisational structure, engaging with colleagues from both national and regional teams to contribute to cohesive workflows
Ability to navigate and thrive in a matrix setting, leveraging cross-functional and cross-country collaboration to enhance overall team performance
Alignment and identification with the core values of WWF: Courage, Integrity, Respect and Collaboration and the relevant behaviours.
