Conservation Manager

We are looking for a dynamic and committed seasoned professional to join as Conservation Manager, lead our conservation work and the strategic positioning of WWF-Hungary as highly impactful nature conservation organisation.

WWF-Hungary is engaged with natural habitats of Europe-wide importance and large carnivore species, forest and freshwater conservation, sustainable development and climate change. As member of the regional organisation WWF Central and Eastern Europe, WWF-Hungary contributes to securing Europe’s great natural treasures in the Danube-Carpathian region and make people live in harmony with nature.

We are looking for a dynamic and committed seasoned professional to join as Conservation Manager, lead our conservation work and the strategic positioning of WWF-Hungary as highly impactful nature conservation organisation.

The jobholder will:

  • Lead the development of WWF-Hungary’ conservation strategy and workplan, including analysis of the context and the conditions, and organize the necessary processes in this regard 
  • Lead the preparation of fundraising concept and pipeline for the implementation of WWF-Hungary’s conservation strategy with strong focus on EU funds
  • Monitor the implementation of WWF-Hungary’s conservation strategy, workplan and budget, prepare regular management reports and analyses, propose adaptive management measures
  • Coordinate, guide and support the conservation team (12 persons) as line manager, build team cohesion and collaboration with other departments
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships along the conservation goals, attract professional support from the necessary interested stakeholders, engage with policy makers and key initiatives
  • Steer the implementation of key conservation projects and campaigns of the organization
  • Ensure alignment with and strengthening of WWF-CEE´s regional conservation strategy
  • Act as member of the Senior Management Team 
  • Determine the structure and capacity of the department necessary for the strategy implementation
  • Support the personal development of key conservation experts, develop their capacity and organise mentoring or coaching when needed
  • Manage external experts and collaborators for the implementation of WWF-Hungary’s strategic objectives including partnerships with other NGOs
  • Represent WWF Hungary towards external audiences including media appearences, and participate in high-level environmental and climate policy work

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Higher education – master's degree in the field of natural sciences, natural resource management, sustainability, policy, economy or other related field
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the management of activities in the field of environmental studies and/or protection, natural resources management or sustainability
  • Experience of working in complex and/or international organization
  • Proven track record of managing internal and external stakeholder relations to influence and drive change
  • Experience in creating strategies, work plans or performance monitoring systems
  • Experience working with or in non-governmental organization
  • Experience in EU project management and fundraising
