HELP US SAVE OUR FORESTS FOR THE GREY WOLF AND THE LYNX
In Hungary, the most valuable forests are called sanctuary forests, yet they make up less than 1% of all forested areas. These rare and ancient forests are home to Hungary’s oldest and most precious trees, many of which have stood for over 140 years. However, most of these forests are not protected, meaning they can be cut down at any time for firewood.
In recent decades, wolves have returned to Hungary. These graceful predators play a key role in the ecosystem by regulating prey populations and maintaining ecological balance. Their presence supports a healthier, better-functioning ecosystem, which in turn helps to preserve forests. By saving sanctuary forests, we not only provide a safe habitat for wolves, but we also allow wolves to contribute to the natural balance of these forests.
What do we do?
Assess wolf habitats and protect the most valuable forests.
Work to preserve key forest areas where wolves can fulfill their ecological role.
Collected essential scientific evidence over the past five years to support forest conservation efforts.
Fight for protection through lobbying, stakeholder engagement, habitat monitoring, and public awareness campaigns.
Commit to doing everything possible to safeguard these forests and their wildlife.
